To get the most out of Apple and Microsoft operating systems, we just use them interchangeably. In this article I’ll show you how to do it.
How to install Windows 10 on your MacBook and iMac – The complete guide 2021
1. Preparation
Before you begin the installation, there are a few things you need to prepare:
Internet connection
First, make sure you have a fast and stable internet connection, as we will be downloading the ISO files and drivers and updating Windows later. This will bring down the internet audience.
Enough free space
Second, your MacBook and iMac must have more than 100 GB of free space.
Some of this free space will later be used for the Windows 10 partition, and the rest will be used for MacOS storage.
If it’s less, I suggest you first clean up your rarely used data or back it up to other media, such as flash drives or external hard drives.
Energy source
When installing Windows 10, your MacBook Pro should be plugged into the charger to avoid draining the battery and interfering with the installation process.
When you are sure that all of the above preparations have been completed, proceed to the next step.
2. Download Windows 10 ISO
You can get the ISO file for Windows 10 directly from the official Microsoft website. It is highly recommended to use an ISO obtained directly from the official site to ensure that you download the original version and not from other sites.
To download the Windows 10 ISO file from the Microsoft site. Skip this step if you already have the file.
First, open the following link with your Google Chrome browser:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
After logging into the website, you still can’t find the link to download the ISO file because of a new Microsoft policy that requires installation with the Media Builder tool.
To open an ISO download link, proceed as follows
In Google Chrome, click Settings > Advanced Tools > select Developer Tools.
On your device, go to iPad Pro > and reload the webpage by pressing F5.
The website will change and you will find a button to download the Windows 10 ISO. Close the Development Tools window by clicking the cross-shaped button in the right corner to enlarge the page.
Then click Edit > select Windows 10 > and click Confirm.
In the Select Product Language section, select the language you want to use in Windows. Can Hindi or English International > then press Confirm button.
Then select the version of the Windows architecture you want to download > click on the 64-bit start button.
The ISO download process will begin, wait for it to finish.
As for which version of the architecture to use, 32-bit or 64-bit, you can customize it to suit your needs.
It is highly recommended to use the 64-bit version, as the 64-bit version is currently the most compatible, as almost all current applications are now targeted for development on 64-bit architectures.
However, if you have special requirements that require a 32-bit operating system, choose the 32-bit version.
When the ISO file download is complete, proceed to the next step.
3. Start the installation procedure
Make sure your MacBook or iMac is connected to a stable internet connection and to a charger.
Then open the Boot Camp Wizard on your Mac. To do this, go to the Start menu with three fingers > select Other > select Help Boot Camp.
Once the Boot Camp Wizard application opens, click Next.
Next, determine how many partitions you want to assign to the Windows 10 operating system. Drag the zoom points left and right to change the size.
What is the ideal format for Windows 10?
If you still don’t know what size fits you, let me give you a little idea.
Windows 10 is an operating system that, once installed, is quite large.
A new installation without an application can be up to 15 GB, not to mention the fact that later, after the upgrade, the necessary drivers and applications have to be installed.
Based on the experience of using Windows 10 on a PC, the 100GB of allocated memory is enough to run Windows 10 with complete peace of mind.
With this amount of RAM I can install all the applications I need for work, multimedia and light gaming, while still having free space for file storage.
If your MacBook and iMac still have room for a 100GB Windows 10 partition, this is the best choice. However, if this is not possible, 60-80 GB will suffice.
You can only specify the size of the partition at the beginning of the installation process. You cannot add a partition after installing Windows 10. So think carefully about your needs.
After defining the size of the partition, click Set.
The installation will begin, just wait for the Windows support software download to complete.
When you’re done, you’ll be prompted to enter your Mac password, enter your password, and click OK.
The Mac reboots and automatically goes to the Windows Setup Wizard page.
The following installation process is similar to installing Windows 10 on another PC or laptop. To put you at ease, I will explain the process step by step.
In the first window, select the language (Hindi/English), time and currency format (English/American) and keyboard input method (American) > then click Next.
In the Activate Windows window, click on the I don’t have a product key button. If you already have a valid license, you can enter it directly in the appropriate column. Then click the Next button.
Then select the desired Windows version, for example B. Home or Pro version (recommended)> click Next.
Make sure I accept the license terms > and click Next.
Then select the partition named BOOTCAMP. Don’t get me wrong. Then click the Next button.
The Windows 10 installation process will begin, wait for it to finish.
First take a sip of coffee to relax, remember, don’t worry, if the steps are done right it will work out with God’s help.
Once the installation process is complete, the Mac will automatically reboot and proceed to the final step.
Then simply install Windows by entering your account name, password, region, keyboard layout and basic settings. Just follow the process, skip the unnecessary steps. These settings can be changed later.
When you are finished, return to your Windows desktop.
4. Install driver
Shortly after opening the desktop, the Boot Camp application window will appear.
Click on Next > click on Install.
At this stage we will install the necessary drivers using the Boot Camp installer.
The installation process happens automatically and Boot Camp installs all the necessary drivers, so we don’t have to look for them individually.
Wait for the installation process to complete and then click Finish > Restart.
5. Windows update
After logging in to the desktop, you will see a nicer Windows because the graphics driver was successfully installed. A WiFi signal can also be detected.
The next step is to upgrade Windows.
Connect your Mac to the Internet through Wi-Fi or your local network.
Then click Start > Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates .
Wait for the update process to complete. It will take some time.
After downloading and installing the update, restart your computer.
6. Setting the font size
Once the driver is installed and Windows is updated, you can use it at this point. But the font size may seem too small, especially if you’re using a 15-inch screen or an iMac.
To get around this problem, we can adjust the display scale through Windows 10 settings.
Click Start > Settings > System > Display .
Under Scale and Layout > click on Advanced Scale Settings.
Change the value under Custom zoom > to 200.
To see the changes, first log out of Windows by clicking Start > Account > Logout.
You can vary the scale values until you find the ideal font size and other components. The recommended value is 100-500.
7. Touchpad settings
An important part to install next is the trackpad. On macOS, you get a smooth trackpad, good sensitivity, crisp movements, and precise clicks.
But using Windows on a Mac is a different story, if not installed, the difference will be very noticeable.
While we can’t use the trackpad as an emoji on Windows like we do on MacOS, we can at least configure it to be usable.
First click on the icon in the system tray > right click on the Boot Camp icon > select Boot Camp control panel.
After opening the Boot Camp control panel, click the Instructions tab.
Select the option Click to click, drag, second click > press OK.
Close the Boot Camp Control Panel window.
Then click Start > Settings > Devices > Mouse .
Adjust the cursor speed and browse as desired.
Then go to the Touchpad tab > adjust sensitivity.
8. Keyboard stroke
The next setting to be made is the keyboard.
On Windows, the Command key works like the Windows key, while on MacOS it works like the CTRL key on Windows.
This can be a little confusing, especially when using keyboard shortcuts for common tasks like Copy/Paste (Command + C/V) and Select All (Command + A).
So we need to reboot to exchange the functions of the command and control keys.
9. Installing required applications
Once all the above steps are completed, the final step is to install the required applications.
You can start with basic applications such as Office, Media Player, Photo Editor and other basic applications.
10. Windows 10 is ready to use
