When I play the game these days, I tend to take certain things for granted. After all, if I download a new game, there are bound to be problems, because most developers and publishers release games that still need polishing. Ary and the mystery of the seasons certainly has a lot to say on the technical side. I’m going to focus on what I like right now.
I like the idea that seasonal crystals influence puzzle solving. It really reminds me of the game Zelda to Breath of the Wild. While the main world seemed a little larger than it needed to be, and I don’t think I’ve ever felt that way before, it still had great potential to be a fun adventure game.
Unfortunately, the problems I’ve encountered with this game ruin the experience that starts with loading the game. The graphics are so bad that the water doesn’t appear where it should. The disturbed water at the bottom of the waterfall tends to float a little higher than it should. The characters are boring at best, especially the NPCs, as are the buildings and the vast world around them.
There may be a reason or an excuse for how this game got to this point, but I was so frustrated in the first ten minutes of the game by the long load times, terrible framerates, and weird blurry spots that make it feel like I’m looking through a transcendent mirage where there shouldn’t be one (like a grassy hill in a normal house). Because of the dullness of the world, I don’t want to have four NPC characters who all look alike telling me the same thing or making the same comment like What happened to winter?
The music is light and fits the game quite well, but when you’re exposed to it during the loading of a scene, it sucks you in for a moment, which could have been quite moving. There were times when I wasn’t sure my exchange would improve. At one point, there was nothing but Ari riding a hyena dog and filling out a progress bar that did everything but notify you of the progress of the charge. The bar clicks from zero to 95%, then back to 50%, then back to about 80%. During this crazy leap forward, Ari and the dog beast’s animation spits and spits, as do the surroundings and areas you explore.
I can understand some bugs going away on the release date, but the amount of problems I had playing the dock was just ridiculous. I was about to give up when our intrepid editor Craig pointed out an alternative the publisher had published. You know what I’m not gonna do when I’m 12? Look on the internet for ways to improve my game. I’m going to complain to my parents that the game sucks and stop playing. I know because I have a 12 year old who does that. Clearly aimed at a young audience, the game has no second chance to make a first impression. I’m sorry, but that’s not how kids work. Sometimes they get what they want because they buy it with their hard-earned money and try to save some of the purchase. I think I made it clear to my friends on the NES how much I didn’t like Confession because their games bored me with their boring gameplay and the fact that I was wasting money on them.
I cannot recommend this game to anyone in the state it is in when it is released. I wouldn’t even give my friends the green light to try. With the problems I’m having, I won’t be touching the Ary andSecret Seasons unless I do a major overhaul in the next few weeks. I couldn’t be more disappointed than I am in the game, because there are some things that could have been really great if I hadn’t had to deal with the problems I mentioned.

Final thoughts : MEDIOCR
A rather bland experience, marred by technical issues that make the game almost unplayable on a connected switch, but improved thanks to a few workarounds. Once the game is fixed and cleaned up, it might be worth a look, but I’m not sure that’s enough to make it fun.
