HP promised that their fledgling tablet would be getting its first major update before then end of July. They only missed the mark by one day, as the update starts rolling out today to a HP TouchPad near you. This was announced on twitter by an HP representative. This will put that TouchPad at version 3.0.2 of WebOS. As of right now we do not know all the specifics of what the update will offer. Besides bug fixes, and small enchancements, we do know that clock and calculator apps will also be part of this update

The HP TouchPad had mixed reviews upon release. Many saw the potential of the device, but took issue with many of the software quirks of the device. HP said they would address issues with the device quickly by issuing updates within weeks of release. The lack of apps has also been a struggling point for the TouchPad. Unlike the iPad and Honeycomb tablets, WebOS did not have a very large app catalog to begin with. Even though other devices did not have a lot of tablet optimized apps at release they both still had over 100k of apps to use, most of which worked ok on the tablets. HP says that they now have more tablet optimized apps available then the iPad did at launch.

Hopefully this will be the beginning of turning the HP TouchPad into a very solid device. Price drops have been hitting the device already. You can now get one for $50-$80 less then when they debuted just weeks ago. These two factors might push more people into taking the plunge.
