At this point it is no secret that Amazon is planning to release their own line of Android tablets sometime this year. Rumors have suggested at least a 7″ and 10″ tablet will be here before the holidays. The latest reports/rumors are coming from PC MAG who says their tipsters are very reliable.

The big rumor is that at least one of the tablets will debut with the NVIDIA T30 Kal-El quad-core processor. Having a quad-core tablet out this year would put an Amazon tablet far ahead of the iPad 2 or other Honeycomb tablets out now which feature dual-core processors.

There also is a possibility one of them will have a sunlight readable screen. With this you would be able to toggle from full color mode to a high contrast black and white. The black and white mode would fit well for their Kindle reader app, and also most likely offer low-power consumption. There a few companies that make these kind of screens, but it is unsure at this point if any of them can manufacture enough screens to support a mass marketed tablet. The NotionINK Adam was one of the first tablet devices to ship with the PixelQi screen, many have said its not ready for prime time and NotionINK is still only offered on a random basis.

Some have speculated that an Amazon tablet could be the first real rival for Apple’s iPad 2. Amazon has really laid the foundation with their cloud music service, and their Android Appstore. If these tablet debut with exciting features, and at good price points, it could be a real contender.
