Will there be a Google Nexus Tablet?

Over the last few days rumors have persisted that Google is going to release their own Nexus branded Honeycomb tablet as they did with their Nexus One, and Nexus S smartphones. The Nexus One was built for Google by HTC, and the Nexus S by Samsung. LG is said to be putting together the Nexus Tablet for Google. Just as the Nexus One did for Android phones, this could set the benchmark for future Android tablets. It is rumored that this tablet will be the first to feature the newest version of Android 3.0 (Honeycomb), which is said to be a significant overhaul of the fledgling tablet specific OS.
With LG putting out their own Android 3.0 tablet called the G-Slate, it will be interesting to see what design specifics Google has in store for their own branded tablet. While the Nexus One smartphone from Google didn’t sell huge, many believed it was what caused Android’s meteoric rise, as manufactures and consumers saw the true capabilities of Android. I am sure Google is hoping the same will happen with their Tablet. A mid-summer release is rumored.
