The New York Times is reporting that Microsoft is set to debut some tablets at CES 2011 in January. Over the past year Windows has made it to very few tablets, and almost none by any big name manufactures. CEO Steve Ballmer has showed them off Windows 7 tablets a times over the year, but none besides the enterprise focused HP Slate 500 has come to fruition.

NYT says that the devices Steve will be showing of will be made by Samsung and Dell. These two companies have already made their mark in the tablet world with Android devices. Rumor still is that the Samsung device will have some sort of a slide out keyboard. Both devices are said to be running Windows 7, but in portrait mode will have some sort of layered interface.

The last big news out of the New York Times report is that Ballmer might show of a tablet running Windows 8. From many reports WIndows 8 is said to be much more tablet friendly then Microsoft’s current version of Windows. It will be interesting to see if Microsoft can wow us and ultimately not be the last player in the tablet game.
