The past week rumors have been swirling that the BlackBerry PlayBook would start at the very affordable price of $399. With many consumers stating their unhappiness with the pricing of the Samsung Galaxy Tab this would be a very smart move for BlackBerry. The rumors have also been that the release of the PlayBook will be in somewhere in March of 2011. This would be right on the heals of the likely iPad 2 in April. From what we have seen so far the PlayBook looks very promising.

Here is the pricing breakdown:

16GB – $399
32GB – $499
64GB – $599

I do think the $100 price jump between models is a little much, but this maybe so that they can sell the 16GB version at the low price. It should be noted that the PlayBook will be WIFI only with the expectation that you would be tethering it with your current BlackBerry device. A 3G/4G version is rumored to come in 2012.
